Record entries for 12th Patritti Brighton Jetty Sculptures – January 23-February 3, 2019

More than 200 quirky, challenging, charming and amusing sculptures will be on show on the Esplanade at Brighton, SA from tomorrow, January 23 to February 3, 2019 for the 12th Patritti Brighton Jetty Sculptures.

The event is a major fundraiser for the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club (BSLSC), and one of SA’s premier arts and community events.

More than 110 SA and national sculptors have created a range of works of metal, glass, ceramic, wood and resin art, more than 90 of which will be placed along the foreshore and in the marquee on Bindarra Reserve, adjacent the clubrooms.

Organisers hope the record number of high quality entries (205) will raise significant funds for the club, which last year went towards a new patrol tower at Brighton beach, officially opened earlier this month.

BSLSC President Chris Parsons said funds raised this year would go towards providing electricity to the tower, so equipment such as a camera can be installed that will be linked to state headquarters and will film the beach 24/7 to provide even greater coverage, especially when the beach is not patrolled.

Since it was established in 2008, the popular and free seaside community arts event has raised more than $200,000 for the surf club.

The large outdoor sculptures along the foreshore can be viewed 24/7, while the more delicate indoor sculptures will be placed in the BSLSC clubrooms and adjacent tent on Bindarra Reserve, open from 8am-8pm most days.

“As well as being a wonderful drawcard to our beautiful beach, proceeds from the event form an important source of funds for our volunteer club, which relies on public donations to offer a range of services to the local community,” said BSLSC President Chris Parsons.

“We are immensely grateful to the many dedicated volunteers who created the first event and all those who have continued to run it for the past 12 years. We also appreciate the contribution of the sculptors and most importantly for us, the people who buy the sculptures and support both the artists and our club. But you do not need to buy anything to appreciate this fantastic event; just come down and see art fused with the environment at Brighton.”
